Fillemena Ruggierio-Mura Mae

Passing of a Mura

DeLUCA, Fillemina Mae (nee Ruggiero-Mura) age 91 of Kunkletown, 
PA, formerly of Garfield, died on September 7, 2009. She was a 
parishioner of Most Holy Name Church, and a  member of a beloved 
founding family of the Holy Name Cadets.  She is predeceased by her 
1st husband Charles Mura in 1973 and her 2nd husband Louis 
DeLuca in 1995. She is survived by 3 sons Dennis Mura, Roger Mura 
and his wife Lauren, Gregory Mura, a sister Ann Renna, 8 
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral is Saturday, 
September 12, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., 
Garfield (973-340-7077) at 8 am followed by a 9 am mass at Most Holy 
Name Church, Garfield. Interment St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. Visiting

Charlie DeBlieck 56-60

Alumni DM hospitalized

We received word from Joe Hessler, Charlie DeBliecks nephew that 
Charlie was recently hospitalized at St. Peters Hospital in New 
Brunswick, NJ.  We assume he has been released by this point, but 
have no additional information. We hope he is doing well, and we are

Bill Ridings 59-62

On the Mend

Bill Ridings is still dealing with a health issue that made it impossible 
to 
attend any of the 75th Anniversary events, much to his regret. He was 
very 
much missed, especially by the alumni corps percussion line. His

Matty Malkiewicz 56-61

On the injured list

Matty Malkiewicz took a spill on the ice up at his New Hampshire 
home 
this past winter, and managed to mess himself up a little in the 
process. 
He was unable to attend any 75th Anniversary events as a result. 
You 
were missed Matty. Get well soon. Just to clarify, the rumors about 
his 
demise were not valid...and we are all VERY GLAD about that.

Cadets breed champions

II am here in Japan with my daughter who sails with the US team. We 
are here for the Laser Radial World Championship. She is the youngest 
at age 15 to qualify. INot drum corp but hey, Not bad.

Go Navy Go

Chris DelVecchio, one of our honor guard at the Memorial Mass May 
24,  
will be attending Navy Officer Candidate School from June 6th until 
the 
beginning of September. Good luck at OCS Chris.

Cadet Alumnus honored

Our 1993 Drum Major, Jerry Burdick-Rutz, was named teacher of the 
year 
for 2007-08. He is the Director of Instrumental Music at Great Oak 
High 
School in Temecula, CA. Congratulations Jerry. You make us all very 
proud.

Ken Shedosky 57-61

Cadet Scholar

In May 2008, John Avella 57-61 successfully defended his doctoral thesis before a board of scholars at Teachers College, Columbia University, NYC and was awarded Doctor of Education, (EDd.) at a Univeresity ceremony in June 2008. His research endeavor covered  a time span of six years and ended with the oral defense of  the conclusions  derived in the findings of his research dissertation.  The practical applicaton of his research exposes the drivers of  emotion and behavior as it relates to customer / client  loyality and solidifying client relationships in business services and product sales.  John is yet another example of the celebrated cadet work ethic and goal setting focus. We  congradulate  John for this achievement and milestone, and wish him continued success in his professional career.

NUMBER SEVEN!

Grandchild #7 arrived March 24--his name is Michael Evan Medina--weighed 9 pounds 2.25 ounces, 21 inches long--with spiked hair--his two big sisters adore him! He's our seventh grandchild, but only the second boy--so cousin Jack, 6, is overjoyed that there's another male in the crew.

Family Honor

Maggie is bubbling with pride over the outstanding accomplishment of her young son Brett. Brett has been named a webelo, and received the Arrow-of-Light, cub scoutings highest honor.  Congratulations Brett!

Frank and Judy are proud to announce that their 16 year old son Gregory (Greg) will be the timpanist for the 2008 Crossmen. We will be unable to go to all the shows this summer, so we are requesting that if any alumni attends a contest this year and the Crossmen are present, please shout a "Go Greg" as the pit enters the field. ALAN has been with the show since 1989.

Maggie Lawrence Temple, 1985-87, has recently joined her fellow Cadet, Ray Scarpa, 1948-52, on the silver screen. Both were extras in their respective productions, but once Hollywood discovers you, could stardom be far behind?
